Overview
Sport at Lourdes Hill College aims to develop body, mind and spirit by offering a broad range of sporting activities that provide opportunities for students with varying interests and abilities to become involved with sport. The College honours its long tradition to the Catholic Girls Secondary School Sport Association by competing in the annual Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics carnivals. Our membership of the Gateway and Riverside District for Metropolitan East enables our students to gain representative honours at district, regional, state and national level. LHC is a member of the Brisbane School Girls Sporting Association (BSGSA).
Lourdes Hill College offers a variety of opportunities for girls to train and participate in school girl competitions. These include Sailing, Rowing, Canoeing, Tennis, Hockey and Sport Aerobics. The College is well supported by parent committees. This support from parents allows students the opportunities to learn new skills, be physically active, and make new friends in a supportive and caring environment.
Facilities
Facilities include the Good Samaritan Centre, a high quality indoor sports facility accommodating netball, basketball, volleyball, badminton and many recreational activities. Outdoor tennis courts encourages students to practice and provides an on campus facility for coaching. The College is fortunate in its position along the Brisbane River with the development of water sports including Kayaking, Sailing and Rowing, and a water sports facility that provides boat storage and rooms for the three water sport clubs, a classroom for teaching and function/ conference room. A fully equipped kitchen and shower amenities have been included so students can maximise their time training before, during and after school. The College also has a 25m swimming pool, a fully equipped weights room with cardio equipment, synthetic long/ triple jump track, grass netball and riverside basketball/ tennis court.
Sports
There are a variety of sports available at the College. These sports include Aerobics, Athletics, Australian Rules, Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Hockey, Kayaking, Life Saving, Netball, Orienteering, Rowing, Sailing, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Touch and Volleyball. Lourdes Hill College competes in many State wide knockout competitions including Uhlsport Soccer, Vicki Wilson Netball, Golden Circle Hockey, Qld School Aerobics, Schools Cup Volleyball and Knowles Cup Tennis. Outside professional coaches are brought in to assist with coaching.
The College sports program focuses on the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of our students and maximises participation with the intent to encourage a healthy lifestyle and a life long enjoyment of sport.
